Australia Day is a national holiday celebrating the landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove on 26th January,1788. It was on this day that Captain Arthur Phillip commenced the first European settlement in Australia. The stamp, featuring the Australian flag as the surface of the continent, emphasises Australia's isolation and growing independence and strength.
