Lennox Bridge, completed in July 1833 by David Lennox and a party of 20 convicts, is the oldest bridge on the Australian mainland. The beautiful sandstone bridge is unique in its design as the western side is a straight line while its eastern side is a graceful curve.
Lennox Bridge formed part of the main route to the west until the Great Western Highway was redirected along an old railway line in 1926. The bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in 1962, and after careful restoration work was completed in the late 1970's, Lennox Bridge was reopened to eastern bound traffic in 1982.
This panorama was taken from Brookdale Creek on the western side of the bridge in late February of 2000.
